I came into contact with the OIVO company via Instagram and received a test copy of this charging station for the XBOX – which I would like to introduce to you in more detail with a few words and pictures.

Scope of delivery & commissioning

The charging station comes in a nicely designed box and, in addition to various documents, also includes two batteries and a USB-C charging cable for connecting to the console or power supply (not included). Although the instructions are only in English and Chinese, the handling is absolutely self-explanatory and does not require much explanation.

The station itself is very well made and comes with beautiful optical details. Not only is the charging status of the batteries signaled to us (red=is being charged, green=is charged), but illuminated flashes on the sides are also pleasing to the eye. Surely this gag would not have been absolutely necessary, but I love such gimmicks – which create an atmosphere, especially when gambling in darkened rooms.

Inserting the batteries is just as easy as reading their charge levels. Thanks to a guide rail, they cannot be plugged into the station the wrong way round, so replacing them is uncomplicated even in poor light. They will then sit just as precisely in the controller later and will not “slack around” in the housing. I used them in a current Series X controller and an older „Day One“ model of the very first XBOX One generation.

The charging process is given as around 3 to 3.5 hours – which was confirmed when I first started it up. I can’t say much about the runtime at the moment, but if the targeted 15-20 hours of runtime (per battery pack!) are almost reached, I’ll be completely satisfied. I usually gamble alone, so I always have a spare battery in the dock for me. In an emergency, you can of course still charge the controller in the classic way using a cable.

A simple but extremely clever idea is the on/off switch on the back of the charging station. It might sound strange, but such an important detail eludes the cross-platform competition. Often you have laid the cables so elegantly or the easily blocked socket is not within reach, but you don’t want to leave the batteries connected to the power forever. Everything is cleanly separated here with a handle and the station is not always under continuous fire.

Conclusion

I am a fan of rechargeable devices and I also welcome it when the energy sources are not permanently installed and can therefore be changed in the future. I listed the removal as a neutral point, but this procedure actually also has a huge advantage: If a battery „goes crazy“ during charging, ideally only the station is gone – but not the much more expensive controller.

Although OIVO does not supply a power supply unit here, it underlines the trend that has been set to avoid further electronic waste. In the meantime, everyone should have a corresponding device in the house – or simply connect the station to a console, AV-receiver or somewhere else.

In addition to the great and eye-catching design, I particularly liked the fact that two high-capacity batteries were included and that a simple switch-off function was even thought of. That speaks for intelligent product design.

I can warmly recommend this accessory to every owner of suitable peripherals. If not for the sake of the environment (a huge plus!), then at least for your wallet. If the specified 3,000 charging cycles (per battery!) are reached halfway, you can calculate your usual battery consumption against it.

A comparison is worthwhile even with the cheapest energy sources – especially since the inexpensive variants often do not have the advertised power and are often relatively weak immediately after purchase.

Sophisticated, environmentally friendly and stylish.
Buy recommendation!
